Welcome! My name is Denise Rachel, and pianos are my business. A dedicated amateur musician, I was led to my profession over thirty years ago by my love of music and musicians. The goal of The Piano Workshop is to further the enjoyment of music, both professional and amateur, by providing complete piano care. As part of my standard service call, I offer practical advice on how to help your instrument reach its highest potential in performance and beauty. This may involve repair, reconditioning, regulation, voicing, and tuning. I travel to many towns in Eastern Massachusetts, including Abington, Arlington, Avon, Belmont, Boston, Braintree, Bridgewater, Brockton, Brookline, Cambridge, Canton, Cohasset, Concord, Dedham, Dover, Duxbury, Easton, Hanover, Halifax, Hanover, Hanson, Hingham, Hull, Holbrook, Kingston, Lexington, Lincoln, Marshfield, Medfield, Middleboro, Millis, Milton, Natick, Needham, Newton, Norwell, Norwood, Pembroke, Plymouth, Plympton, Quincy, Randolph, Rockland, Scituate, Sharon, Sherborn, Stoughton, Walpole, Waltham, Watertown, Wayland, Wellesley, Weston, Westwood, Weymouth and Whitman.

Since 1976, I’ve been a registered member of the Piano Technicians Guild,
and adhere to the code of ethics established by that guild.

I am a truly independent technician, fostering no ties with any manufacturing or retail establishment

Please contact me for a resume of my work history and professional references.

Setting Piano Action removed soundboard recreating pegboard

An exciting part of my work is rebuilding older instruments. When major work is needed, the piano is delivered to my humidity controlled shop where it can be fitted with a new soundboard, new pinblock, new strings, new action parts, or whatever is needed. None of the work is contracted out to other shops without the owner’s advance consent. If we determine that a particular instrument does not warrant major work, I will assist in the location of a suitable replacement, either new or used. Occasionally I have restored used pianos for sale.

Studio Near CompletionThe Piano Workshop is growing!

Construction is almost complete on the new music studio. This space, designed with musical acoustics in mind, will soon be used for music lessons, rehearsals, sound recordings, workshops, and recitals. This soundproofed comfortable room is equipped with a 1917 6’4” Steinway, and a new Lyon & Healy concert grand harp. It will be a place where artists can come together to create and share their work. The purpose of this room is to help keep the arts alive and well!

I enjoy sharing my work with others.  Teachers and their students are invited into my

studio to learn how pianos work.  Exploring the inner workings of pianos makes a great

     field trip!
